Sous la raison sociale Max Schmidt et Cie, cette société, spécialisée dans le commerce du fer, fut créée en 1904 par les fils de Théodore Schmidt, reprenant ainsi le flambeau d'une longue tradition familiale qui remonte à 1842. Le société en commandite fut dissoute le 31 mai 1954 et transformée en société anonyme le 6 décembre 1954 sous la raison Max Schmidt & Cie S.A. Elle fut reprise par Debrunner S.A. en 1972.
